I've been fumbling in the dark streets of this city for several hours now, always making sure I was out of view of any direct source of light. Under my right arm was a hefty, old computer, which constantly tried to loosen my grip with its heavy weight. Maybe it was the adrenaline rushing through my veins, or just the fear of being found, but I never let go of it despite the pain. That didn't matter to my pursuers, who were nonetheless determined to get me, easily hovering over any obstacle I struggled to pass, their loud hum and strong headlights signaling my imminent demise should I slow down for any reason.

As I looked under me for an open manhole, or any kind of opening in the ground, I saw the world above me reflected in a puddle. A tall figure loomed over the sea of stars, shining even brighter than they did. This colossal tower of light, a skyscraper, was my ticket out. Many had tried to make their way to it; some even reached it, few ascended it, and even fewer successfully reached the top. The chance of failing at any point didn't worry me, though. Every time I looked at the shining monument in the sky, my resolve was only bolstered. I had to escape. No matter what.

Soon enough, an opening in my way made itself known. Without hesitation, and hugging the computer tightly, I jumped down the small abyss.
